BOOK A CONSULT
I currently offer virtual design sessions via Zoom. I also take a limited number of in person design consultations each month. If you are interested in having an in person consultation, please submit the contact form and include your desired date & the property address.
A sound healing is a form of meditation in which a person (or a group) experiences sound waves generated by bells, chimes, gongs, drums, singing bowls, among other instruments.
And you might remember learning in science classes, that human bodies are made up of 75% water, which is a great conductor for vibrations. Certain instruments vibrate at specific frequencies when struck. Those vibrations will be moving through the body and its water composition, stimulating circulation which enhances muscle relaxation and improves lymphatic flow and releases stored emotions inside your body.
Many people don’t want to feel sadness or grief, so they close their heart chakras rather than allowing themselves to feel these uncomfortable emotions. When an instrument is played that resonates with that specific emotion, the sound will make the water inside your body begin to vibrate release stuck or stagnant energy and emotions.
Sound baths have nothing to do with a relaxing soak in the tub, and yet more psychiatrists, therapists and other wellness experts are acknowledging the practice as ultra restorative and cleansing.
Sound+Frequency can be used to help facilitate shifts in our brainwave state by using entrainment.
Entrainment synchronizes our fluctuating brainwaves by providing a stable frequency which the brainwave can attune to.
By using rhythm and frequency, we can entrain our brainwaves and it then becomes possible to down-shift our normal beta state (normal waking consciousness) to alpha (relaxed consciousness), and even reach theta (meditative state) and delta (sleep; where internal healing can occur).
Given that everything has a vibrational frequency, including ourselves, it makes sense that sound frequencies impact how we feel. That's why particular songs and types of music often bring about specific types of emotions from us.
During a sound healing session, also known as a sound bath, you'll typically lie down on the floor or a yoga mat, cuddle up with a cozy blanket, an eye mask, and maybe a pillow, then a practitioner plays a variety of instruments and you "bathe" in the soothing sounds and vibrations. Think of it as a "meditative acoustic sound concert." The sound frequencies then slow down brain waves to a deeply restorative state, which activates the body's system of self-healing.
Sound healing has been a revered modality for decades; in the 1940s, sound therapy treatment was used to help soldiers returning home from World War II who struggled with PTSD and depression. In the 1950s, beta frequencies treated children and young adults struggling with learning disabilities. Sound therapy uses a combination of two frequencies, harmonious and dissonant, to trigger a brain and body connection. One frequency creates a soothing response for the body, while others create some discord, or tension, within the body. The latter is meant to help with healing trauma and processing tough memories in an ultra-safe environment.
1. It's super-relaxing
Deep relaxation is one of the most significant and universal benefits of sound therapy. The sounds permeate our system returning it back to harmony, so if you take nothing else away from a sound healing session, relaxation on its own is worth it. With our busy schedules and so much going on in the world, we can all use some chill vibes.
2. It helps clears energetic blockages
Some people experience deep healing during sound therapy as the sound vibrations open, clear, and balance their chakras and release stuck energy. Some clients even describe it as an "energetic deep tissue massage" that leaves you feeling balanced and replenished.
3. It boosts your health
That's right—it's not completely woo-woo. Research has already demonstrated that sound healing can be incredibly beneficial when used on a regular basis. Benefits can include improved sleep, reduction of chronic pain and blood pressure, lowered cholesterol, and a decreased risk of heart disease.
4. It supports mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being
It also heals on the mental and emotional levels. Sound healing helps reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, it balances and clears the mind, and leads to a renewed sense of purpose, well-being, calm, and happiness.
Since stress is associated with other conditions like diabetes and heart disease, engaging in sound baths might be a good preventive strategy to reduce the risk of chronic conditions, too.
No two people will necessarily experience the same thing—just like with any other meditative practice, everyone's experience is different, and new things may come up in each session.
Most people will feel very relaxed and peaceful during a sound healing; some might have visualizations, receive creative downloads, or have an emotional breakthrough, others may fall asleep during the session.
You will most likely not have the same experience twice no matter how many sessions you attend.
